The Westmount, Edmonton community exudes a picturesque setting tied between old world and new world architecture. Walking along the tree lined streets, you will experience a juxtaposition of new Edmonton infills and historic homes that have been lovingly restored. In fact, Westmont offers the largest concentration of single family homes built prior to World War One. You can also find many Edmonton condos with the community of Westmount, however, they are primarily located along busy roads and are more recent additions to the area, primarily 1960s - 1970s era.
Many of the first homes were not constructed for a specific buyer, but rather were purchased for the Hudson Bay Company when they opened their reserve for sale in 1912. Some of the properties in Westmount, specifically Groat Estates welcomed more prominent Edmontonians to purchase here, while the other areas of Westmount typically appealed to younger professionals, doctors, lawyers etc. Most Westmount, Edmonton homes offer an eclectic array of styles from Arts & Crafts, Craftsman, Queen Anne and even grand brick manors. Most of the more prominent homes are situated overlooking Groat Ravine.

In 1913, the global depression deeply impacted the real estate market, resulting in much slower development of the community of Westmount until after the Second World War. Westmount School was completed in 1927, despite it’s initial start in 1913, now called Westglen. Originally a high school and is now an elementary school offering frech immersion programs for grade 4 and up.
Westmount offer many amenities and conveniences including retail scene located on 124th Street and the High Street District. Westmount Mall is a fantastic hub offering more “big box” options like Home Depor and Wal-Mart.
The Westmount Community League offers many programs to the community and advocates on behalf it’s members to maintain the heritage of the area. From preschool programs, to an outdoor ice rink, and vegetables gardens, this charming community is a beautiful place to call home.
